چکیده

Synapse>Valentine by Jacoob Druckman was conceived as a single electroacoustic work. The first half, Synapse is the electronic portion, and the second half, Valentine, is the acoustic portion. Synapse is often omitted in public performances. Beginning with a brief overview of Druckman’s career and works, this paper examines the practice of omitting the electronic Synapse and presents evidence that could discourage its omission in future performances. The reasons that should compel a performer to include Synapse with a performance of Valentine consist of Druckman’s published words, an analysis of musical gestures shared by both Synapse and Valentine, and historical precedents. The evidence can be presented as a paper, but the evidence is more effective if the paper is presented in tandem with a live performance and demonstration. A performance would be most useful in a demonstration of the points in section 3.2. A performer can be supplied by the author.

Compressive and rarefactive dust-ion acoustic solitary waves in four components ‎quantum plasma with dust-charge variation

Based on quantum hydrodynamics theory (QHD), the propagation of nonlinear quantum dust-ion acoustic (QDIA) solitary waves in a ‎collision-less, unmagnetized four component quantum plasma consisting of electrons, positrons, ions and stationary negatively charged ‎dust grains with dust charge variation is investigated using reductive perturbation method. The charging current to the dust grains ca...

Neurotrophin-3 regulates ribbon synapse density in the cochlea and induces synapse regeneration after acoustic trauma

Neurotrophin-3 (Ntf3) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf) are critical for sensory neuron survival and establishment of neuronal projections to sensory epithelia in the embryonic inner ear, but their postnatal functions remain poorly understood. Using cell-specific inducible gene recombination in mice we found that, in the postnatal inner ear, Bbnf and Ntf3 are required for the formati...

Detection of Novel Mutation in LukS Panton-Valentine Leukocidin Gene in Twelve Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus from Sudanese Patients

Staphylococcus aureus carrying PVL gene remain major health problem associated with highly virulent infections. Characterization of such gene is important to know the impact and the functional significance of nucleotide variations. PCR and standard sequencing were performed for twelve Sudanese strains from different sources. Protein structures prediction, modeling and physiochemical analysis we...

Adaptive Learning Rule for Hardware-based Deep Neural Networks Using Electronic Synapse Devices

In this paper, we propose a learning rule based on a back-propagation (BP) algorithm that can be applied to a hardware-based deep neural network (HW-DNN) using electronic devices that exhibit discrete and limited conductance characteristics. This adaptive learning rule, which enables forward, backward propagation, as well as weight updates in hardware, is helpful during the implementation of po...

Implementation of an adaptive burst DQPSK receiver over shallow water acoustic channel

In an environment such as underwater channel where placing test equipments are difficult to handle, it is much practical to have hardware simulators to examine suitably designed transceivers (transmitter/receiver). The simulators of this kind will then allow researchers to observe their intentions and carry out repetitive tests to find suitable digital coding/decoding algorithms. In this p...
